Be a student of your mind. Create from what you live, what you feel and what you like.
Except for a few formal classes in sketching and acrylics I am self taught and life inspired. I don’t do my works as a student of…or in the style of…
I make these points in the hope of giving confidence to anyone and everyone that wants to be creative but has a lack of confidence or doubts that they can do it.
I use to write songs about my life and feelings for my band from ’81-’91, I now express those words through my art. I have found it easier to carry art supplies around than lugging amplifiers home at 3:00 am. The important thing is my message is still getting out.
I do pieces that inspire, shock, calm, and evoke emotions. I also do things for me. Sometimes putting what’s in your mind on a piece of paper helps you define your own path better.
ARTIST STATEMENT: JEFF VARGO
Father, Daughter art duo winning awards
and sharing message.
Teaching teens to express, create, and accept everyone for
who they are.
Jeff Vargo, and his daughter Gabrielle, have amassed an impressive amount of awards over the past few years in area art shows. Many times competing in the same show.
Mr. Vargo, owner of Gabrielle’s Glass Engraving, also is an employee of the Davis YMCA art department where one of his duties is running the Teen Anime Club.
Being fans of anime, the art of Japanese animation, Jeff and his daughter pitched the idea to YMCA staff and were welcomed aboard to give it a try. In 2 years the club has grown from 11 people at the first meeting to an average of 40.
The one main rule of the club is respect. Respect each other and respect everyone’s likes and dislikes.
Many times teens into anime and games are considered “nerds” or “geeks” by others and find the club a welcoming place to meet once a month.
Gabrielle has taken her art and her ideas and started her business Anti Princess, spreading the message that no matter who you are, everyone needs love.
Designing dolls, which some say look more like voodoo dolls, she sells each with her message, “The Ant Princess does not care what others think about her because she has the confidence to be herself. The Anti princess doesn’t need to follow trends, seek your approval, or hang with your “clique”, The Anti Princess will find a prince or princess that will support her and not rule her.”
Working together and trading ideas has lead to a special bond between this father/daughter art duo as well as providing special opportunities.
Both attending Anime cons where they have met and had their art signed and received by some of the top voice actors in the industry, organizing as well as attending many art shows and openings in the area and being offered their own show in the coming year at The Underground Gallery in Butler,Pa.
